Bryce Harper cheated while playing Gigi Hadid in Catchphrase on Jimmy Fallon

Bryce Harper, destroyer of baseball’s unwritten rules, is blissfully ignoring written rules now, too. Some might call this cheating.
With the Nationals off on Monday ahead of a three-game series with the Mets in New York, Harper appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” The Nationals outfielder teamed with Fallon for a game of “Catchphrase” against comedian Andy Samberg and model Gigi Hadid. Harper and Fallon won two out of three rounds of the classic guessing game, but their victory was fraught with controversy.
The game began smoothly enough for Harper, who got Fallon to guess the phrase “Bubble Wrap” and made a sly reference to his MVP award by describing it as something “you put around trophies and stuff, so they don’t break, when you’re shipping.” Things went downhill from there.
In the second round, the studio audience groaned after Harper accepted “Marshmallows” as a correct answer for the word “S’mores,” which is akin to calling a ball that’s caught on the warning track a home run. Harper pulled an equally egregious clown move in the tie-breaking third round. Stumped by the phrase “Eager Beaver,” Harper described it as an animal that builds dams. When Fallon shouted “Beaver,” Harper counted the point, which ultimately decided the game.
Fallon addressed the controversy at the beginning of his subsequent interview with Hadid and declared her and Samberg the rightful winners.
“He lives by his own rules,” the host said with a laugh.
After the show, Harper’s brother, Bryan, noted that this was not the first time Bryce has cheated.
